I have just tried this recipe and I am so pleased with the result ! I am not a confident baker but the recipe is quite easy to follow. I now have bread that I can use for sandwiches and looking forward in particular to toast for breakfast tomorrow. You have made me so happy as I was beginning to think that I would not be able to find an edible low carb/gluten free /dairy free bread. Not eggy at all and a lovely soft texture. I made it with the coconut oil as a dairy free alternative and the taste of the coconut is quite pronounced. I was interested to see that someone else used olive oil . Do you know what amount of olive oil would be appropriate ? Thank you again, I will be trying out your other recipes now that I have found your website.
Some Inuit consume as much as 15–20% of their calories from carbohydrates, largely from the glycogen found in raw meats. Furthermore, the blubber, organs, muscle and skin of the diving marine mammals that the Inuit eat have significant glycogen stores that are able to delay postmortem degradation, particularly in cold weather.
Increases in cholesterol levels need discussion too. We do see temporary increases in cholesterol levels often as individuals transition onto a ketogenic diet. However, when you examine lipid particle size (a more important way to look at the cardiovascular risks), the risk pattern doesn’t seem to increase with a ketogenic diet. Harvard Health has written about lipid particle size here before: http://www.health.harvard.edu/womens-health/should-you-seek-advanced-cholesterol-testing-
What causes high cholesterol? High cholesterol is a risk factor for heart attacks and coronary heart disease, because it builds up in the arteries, narrowing them. It does not usually have any symptoms, and many people do not know they have it. We look at healthy levels and ranges of cholesterol, at ways to prevent it, and medications to treat it. Read now

Beginning the ketogenic diet is different than making most other dietary changes, including many popular low-carb diets, because it involves actually changing your metabolism is pretty significant ways. Most people find that if they ease into the diet, giving themselves about 3–4 weeks to adjust, they experience fewer negative symptoms associated with the early stages.
Hi Diane, the bread should not be moist in the middle now should it fall apart. I don’t think substituting the butter for coconut oil could have been the reason for the problem – they have similar consistencies and can normally be subbed for one another without problem. The only thing I can think of is that you may need to bake it for longer. Ovens do vary and maybe it was the case that it was just not done. I hope this helps 🙂
Though the hunger-reduction phenomenon reported during ketogenic diets is well-known, the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms remain uncertain. Ketosis has been demonstrated to exert an anorexigenic effect via cholecystokinin (CCK) release while reducing orexigenic signals e.g., via ghrelin. However, ketone bodies (KB) seem to be able to increase food intake through AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and the release and production of adiponectin. The aim of this review is to provide a summary of our current knowledge of the effects of ketogenic diet (KD) on food control in an effort to unify the apparently contradictory data into a coherent picture.
I was diagnosed of herpes 6 years ago, the doctor said there are no possible cure for the virus. But i never gave up hope of getting cured. i have been living with it taking acyclovir to prevent outbreaks. I have been doing everything possible to get cured, so i never stopped doing research about finding a cure, i came across testimonies of people getting cured by Dr. Okasi herbal medicine. I contacted him through his website: okasiherbalsolution. webs. com, we talked on phone and i discovered he was genuine. I gave it a try and got the medicine from him, took it has he has prescribed and i’m so happy to say i’m completely cured, i went back to my doctor to confirm it. It’s so amazing, a thing of joy. Made this bread this morning Will use a little less water next time as along the bottom of the loaf about ½ an inch deep was a bit doughy & it did sink in the middle was also a darker colour than the one in the picture but is so yummy Have sliced it into peices & put 2 slices into bags in the freezer for when I have toast for breakfast Going to make another loaf tomorrow as my husband thought it was great So pleased to have finally found a bread recipe I can enjoy Thank u so much Really enjoy browsing on here
Because carbohydrates break down into glucose, they have the greatest impact on your blood glucose level. To help control your blood sugar, you may need to learn to calculate the amount of carbohydrates you are eating so that you can adjust the dose of insulin accordingly. It's important to keep track of the amount of carbohydrates in each meal or snack.
Hey Maria, I am baking my third loaf of your amazing bread. I’ve been having trouble with it rising and keeping risen, but it is still delicious. This time it has risen to new heights and I’m hoping it stay high. I don’t usually make comments because I almost always make changes to recipes. I added onion powder, garlic powder and caraway seeds. It bothers me when people give recipes poor ratings after they have changed them. Anyway, the reason for my comment is to thank you and tell you how brilliant, amazing and stupendous you are. Using psyllium is genius. I have been making various low carb breads for years, some that I invented, others not. Anyway, nothing I have made has ever come close to the taste or texture of yours. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Nutritional ketosis may initiate bioenergetic and mitohormetic signaling through an increase in catecholamines or adiponectin, a decrease in insulin or glycogen, or an increase in β-oxidation that leads to an increase in mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) or NAD+. This leads to further signaling involving AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), silent mating type information regulation 2 homologue 1 (SIRT1), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α), forkhead box O 3a (FOXO3a), and nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 2 (NFE2L2), ultimately leading to transcription of genes related to oxidative capacity, mitochondrial uncoupling, and antioxidant defense. These adaptations collectively contribute to resistance against oxidative stress. Other proteins involved include liver kinase B1 (LKB1), which activates AMPK; nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), which facilitates SIRT1 activation through NAD+ synthesis; and nuclear respiratory factors 1 and 2 (NRF-1 and NRF-2) and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM), which promote mitochondrial biogenesis.

Eating whole grains has been shown to cause blood sugar levels to rise more slowly after a meal and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. The fiber in whole grains slows the digestion of carbs, reducing the demand for insulin. Whole grains also contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients that may also play a role in helping prevent diabetes.
The approximate prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) is 50%, with a prevalence of 37% in patients with premature coronary artery disease (age 45), particularly in women. With appropriate cardiac rehabilitation and changes in lifestyle (e.g., nutrition, physical activity, weight reduction, and, in some cases, drugs), the prevalence of the syndrome can be reduced.
^ Yiu H. Hui (February 1985). Principles and issues in nutrition. Wadsworth Health Sciences Division. p. 91. Retrieved 2014-05-19. Eskimos actually consume more carbohydrates than most nutritionists have assumed. Because Eskimos frequently eat their meat raw and frozen, they take in more glycogen than a person purchasing meat with a lower glycogen content in a grocery store. The Eskimo practice of preserving a whole seal or bird carcass under an intact whole skin with a thick layer of blubber also permits some proteins to ferment into carbohydrates.
