Please don’t think that because something is “simple” for you it is for everyone. I eat roughly 1,500 very low carb calories a day, workout several times a week, have a full time job where I am also walking for the majority of my day plus I’m a busy parent with very little down time. I’m lucky if I can lose a half pound in a week. Keep in mind that there is never a one size fits all solution.

If you have prediabetes, losing a small amount of weight if you’re overweight and getting regular physical activity can lower your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. A small amount of weight loss means around 5% to 7% of your body weight, just 10 to 14 pounds for a 200-pound person. Regular physical activity means getting at least 150 minutes a week of brisk walking or a similar activity. That’s just 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
However, if you have type 2 diabetes, you may select an A1c goal in consultation with your healthcare practitioner. The goal may depend on several factors, such as length of time since diagnosis, the presence of other diseases as well as diabetes complications (e.g., vision impairment or loss, kidney damage), risk of complications from hypoglycemia, limited life expectancy, and whether or not the person has a support system and healthcare resources readily available.
Doctors, pharmacists, and other health-care professionals use abbreviations, acronyms, and other terminology for instructions and information in regard to a patient's health condition, prescription drugs they are to take, or medical procedures that have been ordered. There is no approved this list of common medical abbreviations, acronyms, and terminology used by doctors and other health- care professionals. Examples include:

You know that breakfast is the most important meal of your day and skipping it could affect your health in a number of ways. If you avoid your breakfast just so you can get to work on time, it could lead to overeating through the course of the day. This will only make you gain weight further and could result in a quick surge of your blood sugar levels, which is not a good sign, especially if you have Type 2 diabetes.

Recommendations for improving blood glucose control are based on the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), a 10-year clinical study of insulin-dependent diabetes sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, NIH. The DCCT showed that volunteers who intensively managed their diabetes reduced their risk of eye disease by 76 percent, kidney disease by 50 percent, and nerve disease by 60 percent.

Type 2 diabetes is caused by the body’s in ability to break down sugars from the diet. Normally, cells in the pancreas work to release insulin, a hormone that can process sugar and either send it to cells that need it for energy or store it as fat for future energy needs. Cells in the liver are responsible for clearing insulin from the circulation. But excess fat in the pancreas and liver can start to shut down these insulin-producing cells, leading to spikes in blood sugar levels. Diabetes medications can bring sugar levels down but do not address the compromised insulin machinery.

Like fiber and protein, fat buffers blood sugar spikes. In fact, unsaturated fats have been specifically linked to improved insulin resistance. Just be sure to avoid refined fats, including trans fats and processed vegetable oils, like corn, soybean, and safflower oils, which can be pro-inflammatory. Sources of quality fats to consider adding to your diet include: nuts, olive oil, ghee, coconut oil, avocado, and fatty fish like salmon.

Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Approximately 84 million American adults—more than 1 out of 3—have prediabetes. Of those with prediabetes, 90% don’t know they have it. Prediabetes puts you at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
Apart from administering insulin, the fastest way to lower your blood glucose is to engage in physical activity. Exercise results in an increased sensitivity to insulin. It causes your muscle cells to take up more glucose, leaving less of it to circulate in your bloodstream during and after the physical activity (which means a lower blood glucose when you test). Frequent, regular exercise is very important to good blood glucose control no matter what type of diabetes you have. Research has shown that it is vital in warding off long-term complications like neuropathy, retinopathy, and heart and kidney diseases. Don't forget to check with a doctor, though, before making any major changes to your exercise routine. And, if you have type 1 diabetes and your glucose is 250 mg/dl or higher, check for urine ketones. You should not exercise if ketones are present.
The OGTT is a diagnostic tool diabetes and prediabetes, assessing a person’s response to consuming a fixed amount of sugar. After taking the sugar drink, blood sugar levels are measured two hours later. Below 140 mg/dl is considered “normal,” between 140 mg/dl and 200 mg/dl points to prediabetes or impaired glucose tolerance, and above 200 mg/dl indicates diabetes. It is not useful for tracking diabetes management.
Cinnamon supplements may modestly improve blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar is not well controlled with medication. In addition, one small study found that a branded cinnamon extract reduced fasting blood sugar by an average of about 10 mg/dL in prediabetic men and women with metabolic syndrome. Keep in mind, however, that only certain varieties of cinnamon have been shown to have this effect, and long-term safety studies have not been conducted.
Many studies suggest that a low-carbohydrate diet can help control insulin resistance, blood glucose levels, and weight issues. Consuming low sodium at levels less than 1500 mg per day, limiting alcohol to zero or one drink per day, and cutting out added sugar and unhealthy fats will also help prevent prediabetes from developing. Prediabetes is reversible and can only be managed by making these significant lifestyle changes and having physicians who know how to educate patients on adopting healthier lifestyle habits.

A type 2 diabetes diet or a type 2 diabetic diet is important for blood sugar (glucose) control in people with diabetes to prevent complications of diabetes. There are a variety of type 2 diabetes diet eating plans such as the Mediterranean diet, Paleo diet, ADA Diabetes Diet, and vegetarian diets.Learn about low and high glycemic index foods, what foods to eat, and what foods to avoid if you have type 2 diabetes.
Even if you aren’t overweight and don’t have any of the risk factors, your doctor may want to start testing your blood glucose level every three years beginning when you’re 45. That’s a smart thing to do because the risk of developing prediabetes (and therefore type 2 diabetes) increases with age. Because there are so many possible complications of diabetes (e.g., heart problems and nerve problems), it’s a good idea to be vigilant about detecting blood glucose abnormalities early.
The “cure” is NOT simple. Especially if a person is disabled. Great for YOU that you can work. Great for YOU that you can walk 60 minutes a day. Great for YOU that you can work out. Great for YOU that you can ride a bike. There’s a huge percentage of folks out there that face serious life challenges and are unable to just do your “simple” weight loss plan. So NO, losing weight for diabetics is IN NO WAY simple. Otherwise, NOT ONE OF US WOULD BE FAT!!!! NOT. ONE. OF. US. WANTS. TO. BE. FAT.

Insulin is the medication that will bring blood glucose down the fastest. Someone who uses mealtime insulin can take correction doses to lower blood glucose. This requires a thorough understanding of when to inject, how often to give correction doses, and how much insulin to use. You will need to work with your doctor or diabetes educator to learn how to do this.

Yes. If you have already been diagnosed with diabetes, a home test may be used to help monitor your glucose control over time. However, a home test (point-of-care test) is not recommended for screening or diagnosing the disease. There are FDA-approved tests that can be used at home. If you are interested in learning more, visit the article on Home Tests and ask your healthcare provider.
Fibrous foods are known to curb blood sugar level and aid in weight loss. According to the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, men between the age group of 31 to 50 should ideally consume 31 grams of fiber on a daily basis while women around the same age range should be consuming about 25 grams of fiber in a day. But as you age, your requirement of fiber intake reduces so if you’re a man older than 51 years, your dietary fiber intake should be around 28 grams and for women above 51 years, it reduces to 22 grams on a daily consumption basis. This number provided by the guidelines is relatively still higher than the fiber requirements for people without Type 2 diabetes. Some high fiber foods that you could include in your daily diabetic diet are legumes, chickpeas, salads, black beans, soups and chili.

One of Brooke’s biggest challenges was visiting her parents’ house. “Food is everywhere all the time, on countertops, in cabinets, in the freezer—even the second refrigerator is full.” But Brooke knew her triggers. “I’m an all-or-nothing kind of person. As long as I didn’t touch any of it, I was OK.” For meals together, she brought her own prepared food.

WHAT YOUR POST DOES NOT MENTION IS THE “WHY”.. One of insulin’s functions is to help get glucose out of the blood and into cells where it can be used…If you have type 2 diabetes, this process doesn’t work well anymore:..THE REASON WHY IS…(FAT BLOCKS THE RECEPTORS IN THE CELLS THAT THE INSULIN IS TRYING TO UNLOCK…FAT IS THE PROBLEM). So ..here is a problem that hasn’t been dealt with, reduce carbs..yes..but also reduce fat..you may say..reduce carbs and there will be fat loss..yes…but not enough in the cellular level…so..we are still barking up the wrong tree.
Some dietary supplements have good evidence of helping reverse prediabetes. For example, most people with prediabetes are deficient in vitamin D and magnesium. Both of these are necessary to keep cells properly sensitive to insulin. A health-care professional can order a blood test to check and see if your deficient in these and other nutrients, for example, chromium, biotin, and N-acetyl cysteine. These also are nutrients that have research supporting their role in improving insulin sensitivity.3 Check with a health-care professional before taking supplements. You may need to find one with this specialized knowledge such as a naturopathic doctor, nutritionist, or integrative medicine doctor.
